On November 3rd, 2020, Sveinbjörg Smáradóttir, an SVS staff member, defended her MA thesis at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Akureyri. The thesis´s title is Social Media and Quality of Life among Young Adults in Northern Iceland and it is related to the Arctic Youth and Sustainable Futures project, which is on-going international research led by Dr. Joan Nymand Larsen at the Stefansson Arctic Institute. In her thesis research, Sveinbjörg used focus groups to explore how Facebook and Instagram affect young adults´ quality of life, as defined in the Arctic Social Indicators (ASI) and the Arctic Human Development Reports I and II. The thesis advisor was Dr. Jón Haukur Ingimundarson, and the opponent was Birgir Guðmundsson.
