Maria Wilke, a former staff member at the SAI, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in the field of planning at the Department of Planning and Design at the Agricultural University of Iceland. Titled "Public Participation in Marine Spatial Planning in Iceland," Maria's dissertation explores an important aspect of planning in Iceland.
During her time at the SAI, Maria conducted fieldwork in Húsavík, Skjálfandi Bay, Iceland, as part of the JUSTNORTH project from 2021 to 2023. Notably, Skjálfandi Bay served as one of the case studies in Maria's PhD research.
The defense took place on March 14, 2024, in Reykjavík and was streamed online.
